Robert Purbrick
Consultant Ophthalmologist
MBChB(Hons), FRCOphth

Robert Purbrick is a Consultant Ophthalmologist and Clinical Lead at Sussex Eye Hospital, Brighton, where he has practised since 2015. He leads the Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) and Medical Retina services, and specialises privately in cataract surgery and the management of retinal conditions.
Medical retina is an area he finds genuinely rewarding - particularly the management of AMD, diabetic eye disease, retinal vascular occlusions, and central serous retinopathy (CSCR). Many of his patients also require cataract surgery, and his experience across both specialties means he is well placed to manage this carefully, with realistic expectations and the best possible outcome for each individual. He is committed to involving patients fully in decisions about their care.
Trained in Liverpool, London and Oxford, his published research spans AMD, diabetic retinopathy, CSCR, and the relationship between sleep, circadian rhythms and eye disease. He sees NHS patients at Sussex Eye Hospital and private patients at Nuffield Health Brighton and Nuffield Health Haywards Heath, serving Brighton, Hove, and the wider Sussex area.
